- The 8 must bank off one, two or three cushions before it drops.
- Bank It All
- Every ball you pot has to come off a cushion first.
- Last Pocket
- Sink the 8 in the same pocket as your last ball. The game marks it for you.

- Only the corner pockets count — a ball in a side pocket is a foul.

What's the difference between 8-ball and 9-ball?
In 8-ball you clear your group (solids or stripes) and then sink the 8. In 9-ball you always hit the lowest ball first and win by potting the 9. See how to play 8-ball and 9-ball rules.
What is 10-ball?
10-ball is 9-ball without the luck: ten balls in a triangle, and every shot is called, ball and pocket. A ball that drops any other way doesn't count, and your opponent then chooses who shoots next. You win by potting the called 10 when it's the last ball. See the 10-ball rules.
